The U.S. Department of Labor last week released new rules that effectively increased the white-collar overtime threshold to $913 from $455 per week ($23,660 to $47,476 annually).

This change stems from the 2014 federal Fair Labor Standards Act that was created to make sure workers were paid a fair wage for a hard day’s work.

This new standard that will affect an estimated 4.2 million US employees.
